TREY MARTINHO
Birthdate: May 21, 1998
When did you start surfing?
My dad taught me to surf before I can remember. I hated it then. Too cold. Sometime around 11 years old I was skateboarding a lot and one of my best friends I skated with surfed. So, I stared going with him and fell in love with it.
Shortboard? Longboard? Both?
I grew up shortboarding. Sometime in high school I started logging a good amount. Nowadays I think all boards are worth riding, I’d say I do both pretty equally.
Favorite surfer(s)?
My favorite surfers are Dane Reynolds, Ryan Burch, Tyler Warren, Mason Ho, Craig Anderson, Andy Neiblas, George Greenough, and David Nuuhiwa.
Dream surf trip/ dream set up?
My dream set up is a small house with a shaping/glassing bay setup next to an ultra consistent point break that has sick barrels up at the top and a good log wave on the inside. I would make the stupidest looking surfboards ever and have a blast testing them on my uncrowded perfect waves that only the homies can surf.
How often do you surf?
I surf every day I can. Either twice in a day or one real long session.
What gets you out in the water?
What gets me to go surfing is experimenting with different surfboards. To me, Nothing beats the feeling of gliding down a wave on a completely novel craft. No expectations, no predictability, purely reacting to the wave and present moment.
Favorite band/artist/ genre?
My favorite bands are The Kinks and The Velvet Underground. I also like Mac Demarco, George Harrison, and The Grateful Dead.
Hobbies besides surfing?
Besides surfing I like to shape and glass boards, draw, paint, watch movies, and play guitar/bass.
Favorite board? Favorite fin?
My favorite board of all time is the second board I ever made; a Mark Richards inspired twin fin, shaped and glassed in my backyard.
Favorite fins are the NVS 10.5” Ola flex fin and Nautilis upright fins.
