The recent CZU Complex Fires that have ripped through 86,509+ acres of Santa Cruz and San Mateo County causing hundreds of families to evacuate their homes, many not able to return, have affected our community in deep and lasting ways. Although, thankfully, the incident that started near Waddell Creek is almost contained, it doesn’t mean the time to support those brave individuals who helped keep our homes safe or those people and families who were not so fortunate has passed. In fact, with many people just beginning their road to recovery and many more wildfires ablaze through the West Coast as we speak, support is needed now more than ever. The good news is… we can all help.
“This year, wildfires have now burned over 2.5 million acres in California. There have been 8 fatalities and over 3,700 structures destroyed.
Major Complex Fires are located here:
- Willow Fire is in Yuba County
- Bobcat Fire is in Los Angeles County (North Duarte)
- LNU Complex Fire is in Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Solana and Yolo.
- SCU Complex Fire is in Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, Stanislaus and San Joaquin.
- CZU Complex Fire fire is in San Mateo and Santa Cruz.
In the aftermath of a disaster, immediate needs for victims can include shelter, food, cash and other basic needs. A community’s recovery is often more complex and depends on the scope of the disaster and an affected community’s specific context and needs. For these reasons, the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund supports both immediate disaster relief and long-term recovery efforts for those affected by California wildfires. Since the Wildfire Relief Fund opened in 2003, the organization has granted more than $24 million to support relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of these devastating wildfires”
